Bad Company Corrupts Good Character - Part 3

 1. The destruction these people cause. “Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.” Verse 10

A. These godless men are destroyed by the very things they fail to understand.

B. “They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in    Korah’s rebellion.” Verse 11

Cain - Cain was involved in religious activity, but he was evil. Genesis 4

Balaam – Balaam was greedy and was willing to do anything for money. Numbers 22-25

Korah -Korah rebelled against God's chosen leadership,   Moses. Numbers 16

2. The denunciation of false teachers. “These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves…”   Verses 12 -13

A. Jude uses several metaphors to describe them:

Blemishes (hidden reefs)

Clouds without water

Autumn trees without fruit

Wild waves

Wandering stars             

3. The defiant will be judged. “Enoch, the seventh from   Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones to judge everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the  defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” Verses 14-15            

A. In verse 14 Jude uses a quote out of the book of Enoch to emphasize God’s coming judgment.      

B. Manipulators -They are grumblers and faultfinders, muttering undertones of outspoken dissatisfaction. Then they flatter in order to get their way and gain advantage. Verse 16
